The past fifty years have seen huge changes in the way couples celebrate weddings.

In the past, weddings were simpler, with limited choices making the day relatively easy to plan. Today’s couples have a lot more to consider when planning their weddings, they want to showcase who they are, as well as creating a fun experience for guests. And they definitely don’t want to look dated – ever!.

This year we’ve seen the emergence of some exciting new trends for weddings, so if you’re looking for some inspiration check out our favourite wedding trends for 2017

Wedding Trends for 2017

Industrial & Urban Venues

Couples are frequently turning to more industrial looking venues, especially in London, in which to host their wedding celebrations.

Think open brickwork, white wash walls, vaulted ceilings and polished concrete floors. Buildings such as Studio Spaces, Village Underground and the Truman Brewery are ideal.

Rose Gold & Copper

These colours started to pop up in 2016 and are perfect combined with pale greys and neutrals. They are also a beautiful alternative metallic to gold and silver. Bring them through with the simplest things such as votive candle holders, framed table names or cutlery. If you want to take it further what about using sequin table runners or a sequined cake table cloth from Pudding Bridge. Or how about delighting guests with reception drinks served in copper tankards & martini glasses.

Props & PomPoms

Many brides are taking a step away from the classic white wedding and instead are opting for fun bold colours, quirky props, festoon lighting, balloons, ribbon and glitter backdrops, giant letter lights, flower bud walls and paper pom pom decorations.

Greenery

Embrace the trend for all things green with arrangements laden with lush green foliage instead of bountiful arrangements of blooms. Not only can it be a slightly more inexpensive option it also creates a more natural & rustic look. Think long table runners and dramatic hanging displays and try adding some scented foliage such as eucalyptus or olive branches.

Geology

Geology hit fever pitch when a cake made by US based Intricate Icings took Instagram by storm. Since then the trend has expanded and we are seeing sliced Agate being used as table number markers, rough gemstone and agate placement, gem shaped table menus and geode printed stationary.

Wedding Donuts

We saw the emergence of this trend in 2016 and I am sure it will continue well into 2017….because who doesn’t love a donut?!

Perfect as an alternative to the sweetie station, brilliant for late night treats or even as mini favours!

Gourmet Grazing Stations

With weddings increasingly taking a more relaxed turn, gourmet grazing stations are the ideal way of feeding guests incredible food, presented in exciting ways. Our favourites include an Oyster Ice Bar, Artisan Cheese & Charcuterie, Mexican Taco & Margarita Station, Champagne & Seafood Station and a Pretty Patisserie Station.

Florals on your food

Every bride wants their wedding to look as gorgeous as possible, and what better way to do this than adorning cocktails, puddings, favours & treats with colourful edible flowers such as nasturtiums and pansies. Perfect for summer weddings.

Acrylic Notes

Phillip Stark Ghost Chairs have been an elegant staple at weddings for some time now…but recently we have seen the use of clear acrylic for other elements of the day. Perspex place settings, bespoke cut perspex table numbers & menus and etched window pane seating plans.
