A new month means new, exciting additions to the London dining scene including from the wallet-friendly taco restaurants to Michelin star potentials.
The pop-up restaurant goes permanent with this Newington Green restaurant, serving seasonal menus from chef Ben Marks (ex Claridges, The Square, and Noma) and front-of-house Matt Emerson (Polpo and Polpetto).
Based inside Pop Brixton, Kricket’s menu of modern Indian small plates has been hugely successful and highly rated by the critics too. Now they’re doubling up with a new restaurant that’s coming to Soho.
You might have already tried Smokestak’s food at Street Feast – they serve some of the best brisket in town. This month they’re opening a permanent spot in Shoreditch with a lot of smoking going on.
The Hart Brothers, who already run brilliant Soho tapas bar Barrafina, are venturing into Mexican cuisine. Tacos will be the main order of the day. The signature will be the Al Pastor – a taco whose name means “shepherd style” and has Arabic origins – with the Al Pastor meat cooked on their upright ‘trompo’ grill.
High end Nordic restaurant Aquavit found fame in the heart of New York and has been a huge success there since 1987 (earning two Michelin stars). Now they’re opening in the new St James’s Market development. Dishes include Butter-Poached Cod with Fennel Aioli and Salt-baked Celeriac Root.
New restaurant Street XO from Michelin-starred David Munoz opens this month. The chef previously worked at Nobu and Hakkasaan, before going back to Spain to open his own restaurant. StreetXO in Madrid is very popular indeed, so expect this opening to be big too.
