Tower of London - Our Venue of the Month

This month we are celebrating a UK treasure, the venerable Tower of London.

Since August, the Tower’s famous moat has been slowing filling and spilling with a bright red sea of flowers. 888,246 ceramic poppies, created by sculptor Paul Cummins, with setting by stage designer Tom Piper, are being gradually installed as a tribute to every British military fatality during the Great War.

This arresting, ever-evolving display, which marks the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War, is named Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red. A powerful symbol of remembrance in the UK, it circles the Tower of London, creating a spectacular and eye-catching display visible from Tower Bridge. It makes for an even more inspiring setting for events held during this time. Ampersand will be catering for a number of VIP events this month, and we know they will be amazing.

With the team in and out of the Tower, putting together our array of events, we are enjoying the opportunity to see the display in its final stages. Even when we’re not there, our social networks are keeping it in our thoughts. Facebook, Twitter and Instagram have all been a-buzz with the latest images and stories from the Tower of London Remembers project. Just take a look at #TowerPoppies.

The Ampersand team are proud to see the Tower playing such a unique and meaningful role in the commemoration of the First World War. It’s a real honour to work with one of London’s most popular and revered venues.
