Love is in the Air at Kensington Palace Orangery

Let it never be said that romance is only for Valentine’s Day! Not only is the Orangery at Kensington Palace a classically elegant wedding venue, but with a little bit of planning it can also be the perfect spot for a romantic proposal.

Our team at the Orangery is only too happy to help with such a special request and recently they’ve had not one, but two fantastic opportunities to do so.

Earlier this year, Restaurant Manager Lukas was contacted by someone seeking a table suitable for a proposal. Locating the nervous gentlemen and his lady near the East Apse entrance, the staff delivered champagne to the table, and the man made his move. The sight of her boyfriend on bended knee clearly took the young lady by surprise, and all eyes were on them as he asked her to make him the happiest man in the world. The whole restaurant burst into applause as she said yes!

More recently still, Lukas had an even bigger part to play in an elaborate proposal. In an email, a visitor asked if the restaurant team would help him propose to his girlfriend, and of course they were thrilled to get in on the surprise. When the gentleman in question left the room, Lukas took a small envelope and the lady’s coat to her at her table. Within the mysterious envelope, the lady found a riddle:

It appears the man you were with has disappeared, Where oh where could he reappear? Take a coat for your last trip, Don’t worry the waiter has been tipped, A biscuit with tea is pleasant when dunken, The missing man you seek waits beside a pond that is sunken, Be sure to hold tight for a garden delight, A damsel in distress always seeks a tall, dark and handsome knight!

As the lady went outside to find the Sunken Garden and her waiting knight, Lukas ushered in the next part of the surprise. When she returned to the restaurant, with ring on her finger, the lucky lady was treated to her own private recital by a professional violinist and soprano singer, followed by a complimentary champagne afternoon tea courtesy of the Orangery team.

If you’re looking for the perfect location to pop the question, Lukas and his team would be only too happy to help!
