Baking Up a Storm and Glowing Wild at Wakehurst Place

The ovens at the bakery adjoining the Stables restaurant at Wakehurst Place fire up every weekend to offer delicious breakfasts and a variety of breads to weekend guests from 10am.

Since October the Bakery has been offering complimentary morning papers together with freshly baked breakfast baps, with a choice of locally sourced sausages or bacon. There’s also a selection of hot drinks, cakes and scones, along with the Cake of the Month. There are gluten free options, including a Seeded Chocolate and Beetroot Cake. There is also a selection of fresh bread, including the new Wakehurst flowerpot loaves.

These charming seed sprinkled loaves are the brainchild of Peter Howard, head chef at the Stables and inspired by his surroundings at Wakehurst. Peter was influenced by his inspiring surroundings including the Kew Millennium Seed Bank, which houses and protects seeds from the world’s most substantial and diverse collection of threatened and useful wild plants.

"You can slice these loaves on the round for an alternative shaped sandwich or cut them in half or quarters for the family to have with soup.

Indulge yourself with freshly brewed coffee, read the papers, have breakfast and then stretch your legs around the autumn delights before taking your bread home for the week.”

Glow Wild

In early December, Wakehurst will be holding a Glow Wild Lantern Festival. A lantern trail will lead families through the enchanting grounds after dark and take in the stunning sight of the tallest living Christmas tree in the UK.
The grounds will be brought to life with twinkling lights, fire displays and handmade lanterns, along with seed inspired lamps, created by local school children, hanging from the tree canopy.
There will be food and drink, festive music and a lantern decorating activity (subject to additional charge) for children of all ages.

For tickets, please visit the Kew website.
