Banqueting House

Sumptuous and atmospheric Banqueting House has a history as rich as it's dazzling decor, used by Kings and Queens of England to entertain and impress guests.
When completed in 1622, the Banqueting House – which architect Inigo Jones designed for James I in the classical Palladian style – dazzled London society, and it has lost none of its power to impress. Now, with Ampersand Event Catering, it hosts Royal banquets, glittering social occasions, charity fashion shows and theatrical performances and remains one of the finest venues for hire in the UK.

Not many people know that Charles I commissioned Flemish artist Rubens to create the canvases that make up the ceiling of the Main Hall. They depict the divine right of the monarchy and, ironically, were among Charles’s last sights before his execution in 1649. Now the paintings and the hall’s classical proportions provide a suitably grand backdrop for events.

The rooms at Banqueting House feature heavily in the history of two King's for very different reasons. A sweeping staircase takes you to the awe-inspiring grandeur of the Main Hall. With its chandeliers and Rubens’ famous ceiling paintings, it’s the ideal setting for the majority of events including conferences, dinners, and weddings. Receptions allow for 500 guests, while around 300 can enjoy a dinner and dance.

Underneath the Main Hall is the vaulted Undercroft, originally a drinking den for James I. This enchanting room can be used for drinks receptions prior to a dinner in the Main Hall, or as an intimate venue for a candlelit dinner. We can serve supper for up to 120 or provide canapés at a reception for 250.
